Biography
Ildikó Süveges MD, PhD, DSc is professor emeritus of ophthalmology. She took her first degree from the Medical University of Debrecen, Hungary. In 1984 she was appointed as the head of the eye clinic of the Medical University of Szeged. From 1992 to 2004 she served as head of the 1st Ophthalmology Department of Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest, where she is professor emeritus at present. Her scientific activity is concerned with corneal diseases, the subject of her academic (DSc) dissertation. The number of her publications is 252. Formerly she was the representative of Hungary in several international ophthalmological associations. She was the organising manager and president of the XIth SOE Congress in 1997. A founder member of EAO (Chair XVI) and elected member of AOI (Chair LVII). She is the author of the textbook ’Ophthalmology’ whose 4. edition appeared in 2015. She holds several international and Hungarian awards, including the „Cross of Honour†decoration of the Republic of Hungary given by the Head of State and the Semmelweis Prize given by the Hungarian Ministry of Welfare.
