Mahmoud Mohamed Ismail has completed his Ph.D. in Ophthalmology from University of Alicante, Spain during December 1996 and master degree in Ophthalmology and Ocular Surgery from University of AL-Azhar in 1989 followed by Bachelor of Medicine & Surgery from same university. He is the Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of Cornea & Refractive surgery unit at University of AL-Azhar, Egypt. Mahmoud Mohamed Ismail also awarded with many prizes during his academia. He has published many papers in reputed journals and also participated in various national and international conferences.

Emanuel Rosen MD is Co-Editor, Journal of Cataract and refractive surgery, Past President ESCRS & IIIC, Authors of six textbooks of ophthalmology including fluorescence photography of the eye 1969 and intraocular lens implantation 1979. He has qualification from Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, FRC Ophth, (1993). He is section editor on lens in Duker textbook of ophthalmology and Co-editor lens section Albert & Jacobiek ‘Ophthalmology’, Chairman and founder of Euro Times. He is visiting professor of Ophthalmology at university of Manchester, Dept. of Vision Science. He is one of the leading and respected ophthalmologists from Europe.

Francesco Bandello is Full Professor and Chairman at the Department of Ophthalmology at University Vita-Salute, Scientific Institute San Raffaele, Milan, Italy. He is Academic Dean of “Corso di Laurea Specialistica/Magistrale in Medicina e Chirurgia” at the same University. Professor Bandello is Past President of EURETINA, President of Academia Ophthalmologica Europea and Vice-President of EuroLam. Prof. Bandello is Co-Editor of the European Journal of Ophthalmology and former board member of the Club Jules Gonin and Macula Society. He is member of Executive Board of ESASO Foundation (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology), member of the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis and the Accademia Nazionale di Medicina. Prof. Bandello is co-author of 10 books and he serves as a peer reviewer for grant applications for the NEI. He has authored or co-authored 339 articles and he served as trained Principal Investigator in several clinical trials performed following ICH/GCP and mainly concerning retinal diseases.

Retina Disease

After undergraduate studies at Guys Hospital Medical School, Dr. Alan Bird completed junior posts in general Medicine, Surgery and Neurosurgery. After a residency in Ophthalmology at Moorfields Eye Hospital he worked as Senior Registrar at The London Hospital and The Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queen Square. This was followed by a Fellowship in neuro-ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute with Dr. Lawton Smith and a brief period with Dr Hoyt in San Francisco. On returning to in 1969 London Alan Bird was appointed to the Institute of Ophthalmology as Lecturer, and subsequently Senior Lecturer, Reader and Professor, and Consultant at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He changed his main interests from neuro-ophthalmology to retina, and a specialised clinical service was established. This was aided by the conversion of clinical activity in Moorfields Eye Hospital to specialised Services, and the Medical Retinal Service now holds 34 clinics each week, and has 12 Consultants. Over the years a productive multidisciplinary research team developed for the investigation of monogenic retinal disorders and age-related macular disease. Investigative techniques included molecular genetics, electrophysiology, psychophysics, specialised imaging and morphology. Establishment of research programmes was aided by the successful development of the Institute of Ophthalmology, which became a School of University College, London. In order to contribute fully to research, he spent a sabbatical period with Dr Dean Bok at UCLA in 1985. On October 1st 2005 Dr Bird retired from full time clinical practice and was appointed Emeritus Professor at London University and Honorary Consultant, Moorfields Eye Hospital so that research and teaching can be continued. Boris Malyugin Prof. Boris Malyugin is the Deputy Director General (R&D, Edu) of the S. Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Institution (Moscow, Russia). Dr. Malyugin is a world-renowned authority and expert in the field of modern ophthalmic surgery. He has established himself at the forefront of advanced cataract and anterior segment surgery by pioneering numerous techniques and technologies in the field of ophthalmology. He is well known for his educational activities all over the world. He is having multiple international awards and was invited to present lectures and live surgery sessions in numerous national and supranational meetings. Dr. Malyugin is a President of the Russian Ophthalmology Society (ROS), ESCRS Board member, as well as the member of International Intraocular Implant Club and Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, AAO, ASCRS. Dr. Malyugin has published in the literature extensively, co-edited several books in different fields of ophthalmology, and contributed to the printed and video atlases of ophthalmic surgery and video Journal of cataract and refractive surgery.

Prof. Dr. Luis Emilio Abad has completed his Ph.D. in Genetics and Molecular Biology from Bircham International University, Spain and also did Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Bircham International University, Spain followed by Diploma in Ophthalmology (DO) from Dr. Nano Eye Clinics, Argentina and Doctor in Medicine (MD), Faculty of Medicine from National University of Córdoba, Argentina. He is Dean and Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at Ballsbridge University, Dominica and President of International Research Group, Abad Eye Research, Dominica He is also the Honourable global member council of the Board of Quality Standards, UK. He is also awarded with many awards like Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), International Philosophical Institute, Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) in Medical Research, Maha Sastra University, Cambodia and many more awards. He is the authors of many books few are Practical Manual of Ophthalmology, Revinter, The Vitreous Behavior of stem cells in eyes with chorioretinal injuries and Retinal Vasculopathy, Glosa, Spain .

Biotechnology and Nanotechnology Ocular Research

Dr Sergey Cusato has the title of Master of Vision Sciences of La Salle University (2015) with clinical practice in the areas of Primary Care and Contact Lenses at the University Nova Southeastern University United States (September 2012). He has taken his Degree in Optometry from University of Contested Brazil (UNC) in 2008. He is a Director and Researcher Fellow of the Brazilian Institute for Training and Contact Lenses Research (FIBTPLC). He is also the Professor of Contact Lens at Master's (UPA) Universidad Autónoma del Paraguay. He is the member of societies and associations like British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), Contact Lens Society of America (CLSA), Orthokeratology Academy of America (AAOMC ) and Latin American Academy of Orthokeratology and Control of Myopia (ALOCM) and Fellow of the International Association of Contact Lenses Educators (FIACLE).

Primary Care and Contact Lenses

Prof. MICHELE VETRUGNO got his degree during the 1986-87 Academic Year with full marks and honour, and a dissertation in Ophthalmology Clinics the title of which was “Visual evoked Potential and Oscillatory Potential in headache”. During his University years he won a scholarship from E.N.P.A.L.S. He got his diploma to practice the medical profession at the Università degli Studi in Bari in the April 1987 Session. He specialised in Ophthalmology in 1992 with full marks and honours and a dissertation entitled “Capsular cataract extraction with H.S.M. IOL implant in a hemo-dyalised patient”. On June 24, 1995 he got the the Diploma of the European Board of Ophthalmology in Milano. During the 1990-91 Academic years to now, he co-operated with his Teacher in lectures and practice with the students of the 5th course year, and with tutorial activity for dissertations for the Degree in Medicine and Surgery and for specialisation in Ophthalmology. Additionally he performs an integrating didactic activity in the “Eye Surgery Course”, with monthly attendance, since the 1994-95 Academic Year. From 2002 till today he is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Head of Glaucoma Research Centre of Eye Clinic – University of Bari, Italy. He is author or Co-author of 200 publications, both in Italian and International Journals (55 publications in PUBMED).

Eye Surgery

Dr. Amel Meddeb Ouertani is Professor of Ophthalmology, graduated from Pierre and Marie Curie University in Paris. Her clinical interests include cornea and glaucoma. She served as head of the Ophthalmic Department at Charles Nicolle University Hospital. She established twinning programs with Pretoria, Alexandria and Nagasaki Universities and served as member of the Pan Arab Board of Specializations. She trained hundreds of Tunisian residents and African colleagues. She is former President of the Tunisian Ophthalmological Society, Founding President of the Tunisian Society of Aerospace Medicine and the African Society of Glaucoma. She served as member of the Advisory Board of ICO and the Global Outreach committee of the AAO. She also served as Tunisian national coordinator for prevention of blindness As general Secretary of “Nadi Al Bassar”, a leading NGO in the region, she has participated in many eye camps and developed a clear understanding of Eye health status in Africa. She is currently executive Vice-President of the Middle East African Council of Ophthalmology; Secretary General of the Middle East African Glaucoma Society and International Coordinator for Glaucoma at the WOC. Dr Ouertani received several national and regional awards.

Cornea and Glaucoma

Ildikó Süveges MD, PhD, DSc is professor emeritus of ophthalmology. She took her first degree from the Medical University of Debrecen, Hungary. In 1984 she was appointed as the head of the eye clinic of the Medical University of Szeged. From 1992 to 2004 she served as head of the 1st Ophthalmology Department of Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest, where she is professor emeritus at present. Her scientific activity is concerned with corneal diseases, the subject of her academic (DSc) dissertation. The number of her publications is 252. Formerly she was the representative of Hungary in several international ophthalmological associations. She was the organising manager and president of the XIth SOE Congress in 1997. A founder member of EAO (Chair XVI) and elected member of AOI (Chair LVII). She is the author of the textbook ’Ophthalmology’ whose 4. edition appeared in 2015. She holds several international and Hungarian awards, including the „Cross of Honour” decoration of the Republic of Hungary given by the Head of State and the Semmelweis Prize given by the Hungarian Ministry of Welfare.

Corneal Diseases

Janardan Kumar, Ph.D., a professor of microbiology at Becker College in the United States, started his schooling at home under a tree in a small village named Rajapakar in the state of Bihar, India. His esteemed teachers, the late Sri Raghunath Prasad and Dr. Udai Narain, were real mentors who prepared him to become a confident go-getter in the fierce pursuit of his dreams. In the United States he received post-doctoral training in glaucoma at Duke University Eye Center, North Carolina, a nationally renowned eye research laboratory, under the supervision of Dr. David L. Epstein. Dr. Kumar’s approach to ex-vivo perfusion studies showed, for the first time in the history of glaucoma research, that thrombin may be involved in the pathophysiology of glaucoma; he presented those findings at ARVO in 1999. The study of glaucoma is the most humbling of disciplines – closely associated with both clinical failure and lack of understanding, yet due to Dr. Kumar’s exceptionally strong work ethic and innate scientific vision, Dr. Epstein always referred to him as a potential “superstar.” Dr. Kumar’s main objective in his involvement with the prestigious OMICS eye conferences is to bring eye clinicians and scientists together in order to further advance glaucoma research globally.
